Another Tomatis® milestone achieved! About 25 students at Lobethal Lutheran School in Adelaide, South Australia are taking part in the 12-week Tomatis® research program where they are given an hour a day of listening to filtered music through the special headset with bone conduction to help improve their overall academic performance.
The Tomatis® program is spearheaded by Tomatis® Consultant (Level 3), Dr Donna Palmer, the director of Integrated Wellbeing Centre, who is working on a research project about the benefits of the Tomatis® Method for students with Auditory Processing Disorder and other learning difficulties.
Why the Tomatis® Listening Program?
The ear is the gateway to allow the brain to process sensory, auditory, visual, and emotional information. However, barriers ranging from background noise to deep-seated learning and auditory processing difficulties associated with emotional overload become challenges, especially for young learners. The Tomatis® Method influences the connections between the ear, the brain, and the body by creating digitally-modified musical contrasts to constantly surprise the brain and trigger its attentional mechanisms.
What do the students do during the Tomatis® listening sessions? And why?
Drawing, painting, doing puzzles, playing memory and attention games, and block-play are some of the most recommended activities during the Tomatis® program.
What are the most common gains/results during a Tomatis® program? Will the effects last?
The most apparent results often reported by parents are improvements in memory, concentration, comprehension, oral and written expression, motor skills, reduced sensitivity to sounds, better emotional regulation, and more positive behaviour.
Yes, the progress made during a Tomatis® program lasts because they are made not due to conditioning but rather to a restoration of balance. We can say that in the vast majority of the cases, not only are the results maintained but the progress may continue once the developmental processes have been restored to their normal state.
With more than 200,000 individuals per year in 75 countries and 300 schools and universities around the world (with 3 in Australia now) aided by the Tomatis® Method, be sure to have it in your school today! This is definitely the best gift for all your learners!
