What is Soundsory?

Last April, we had a small webinar introducing a new supplementary product. That can help you maintain the improved body, brain and ear connections from our Tomatis® program.

The product is called Soundsory®. And like the Tomatis® Method, Soundsory® is a sensory training program. That uses the power of music with the brain’s neuroplasticity. That improves one’s cognitive and motor skills as well as auditory processing and even emotional regulation.

But for those who weren’t there during our presentation, here is a little introductory guide. To what exactly Soundsory is, how it differs from the Tomatis® Method and why they work incredibly well together.

The Program

Soundsory® is more-or-less a home-based program that does not really require any therapist to set up. Much like the Tomatis® Method, it transmits modified music using specialised headphones. The listening segment of the program takes about 30 minutes a day, followed by five minutes of exercises.

It operates on the same principles of neuroplasticity as our main program. But where Tomatis® is considerably larger in scope and requires the supervision of a certified practitioner. The Soundsory® program is a lot simpler.

The Technology

Soundsory® uses a variation of the Gating® process also used by Tomatis®. But this one is more automated and does not require any parameters for a professional to set before using.

However, much like in the Tomatis® program. Soundsory® also uses bone conduction modules to better deliver quality music to the listener. These modules are located strategically in places like at the top part, where sound can be transmitted to the skull.

The Music

The way music works in Soundsory® is that there is a strong emphasis on rhythm. There are even more genres you can listen to from jazz and gospel, to children’s songs and classical composers.

Each session usually takes up about 9-12 tracks. However, the way the music is presented is to really keep the brain trained on the rhythm of the music. But makes enough sudden changes as to keep the brain sharp and attentive.

The Benefits

The physical exercises in Soundsory® are an excellent way to reinforce the pathways that allow the body and brain to coordinate each other. Because while Tomatis® is also excellent in building these up, Soundsory® further adds upon that by actually getting the body to move. The combination of movement and music specifically helps in the training of the vestibular system in the inner ear (which is also responsible for the way our body balances itself, controls sensory processing and fine and gross motors skills).

Another benefit from Soundsory® is that it helps to regulate emotions as the vagus nerve (parasympathetic system) is connected to the vestibular system too. This can help children with issues like overwhelming sensory stimulation that leads to emotional meltdowns. Using Soundsory can help strengthen the systems for regulating these emotional and sensory responses.

And lastly, the independent nature of the program is very convenient whether it is between breaks of Tomatis®, or if you are just simply looking for ways to better improve your motor and cognitive skills. (And as a side note, the headset can also function as a regular wireless one that connects with phones and other devices via bluetooth).

All in all, Soundsory® is a product designed using the same science of neuroplasticity, auditory processing and multi-sensory training as Tomatis®. However, its process is simpler, needs no supervision and can be used more casually. It is truly a wonderful supplement that works excellently with other therapeutic programs and at any age, from toddlers to seniors.
